Tom Cruise considered for Brad Pitt's role in 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'

Tom Cruise considered for Brad Pitt's role in 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'

In an interesting turn of events, it has been revealed that Tom Cruise was almost cast as the lead in the Oscar-nominated 2008 film, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

This romantic drama, directed by David Fincher, saw Brad Pitt deliver a stunning performance that earned him an Oscar nod for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

However, it turns out that Cruise was the first choice for the lead role and would have starred in the film had things worked out differently.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Steven Spielberg, who was originally attached to direct the film, revealed that he and Cruise had been friends for many years and had talked about collaborating on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button long before they worked on Minority Report together.

While they had considered working on the film, it never quite worked out and eventually, Pitt was cast as the lead.

Despite not landing the lead role, Cruise and Spielberg did go on to work together on Minority Report. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which also starred Cate Blanchett and Taraji P. Henson in prominent roles, received 13 Oscar nominations and won three awards in total.
