One citizen accused the couple of utilizing NYPD resources without charge, stating that "the city has much more pressing safety concerns."
Another citizen lodged an online complaint, expressing their dissatisfaction as a taxpayer and voter in NYC, regarding the utilization of NYPD resources to provide additional security for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during their time in the city.
Requests have been made to the mayor to refrain from offering complimentary security details to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Meanwhile, the couple is facing criticism in the UK for supposedly attempting to recreate the circumstances surrounding Princess Diana's tragic death.
On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex claimed that Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and her mother were involved in a "near catastrophic" car chase with press photographers after attending an awards ceremony in New York.
The spokesperson stated that the incident involved "a group of highly aggressive paparazzi" in six vehicles with tinted windows, driving recklessly and jeopardizing the lives of the couple and Doria Ragland.
The NYPD, which confirmed its assistance to the private security team responsible for their protection, downplayed the severity of the incident.
Julian Phillips, the NYPD's chief spokesperson, stated in a release, "There were numerous photographers that made their transportation challenging. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination without any reported accidents, citations, injuries, or arrests."
