The 74-year-old king, who succeeded his mother after her passing in September, was adorned with an array of historical regalia, from golden orbs to bejewelled swords, before the 360-year-old St Edward’s Crown was placed on his head.
Seated upon a 14th-century throne, King Charles III appeared in high spirits throughout the ceremony.
This event marked a significant moment in British history, as King Charles became the 40th reigning sovereign to be crowned at Westminster Abbey, which has been the coronation church of Britain since 1066. Prior to the coronation, the Archbishop delivered a sermon to the 2,300 guests in attendance.
This coronation ceremony was Britain's biggest ceremonial event in seven decades, dating back 1,000 years. Around 100 world leaders and millions of viewers around the world watched as King Charles III was crowned. As the spiritual leader of the Anglican Church, the Archbishop of Canterbury played an important role in this historic event.
