Eden, a respected commentator on royal matters, discussed the ongoing Spotify dispute concerning COVID-19 misinformation with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The platform faced criticism for hosting content that spread false information, leading to a debate about the couple's decision to maintain their partnership with the streaming giant.
Eden observed that while Prince Harry has been a vocal advocate against misinformation, his choice not to sever ties with Spotify indicates a prioritization of montary gain over upholding his principles.
The discussion then shifted to the work ethic of Joe Rogan, who manages numerous podcasts with a small team. Eden questioned whether investing millions in the Sussexes was truly a worthwhile expenditure.
During an episode of Mail+ Palace Confidential, Eden shared his thoughts on the Spotify controversy and acknowledged the challenging position in which Harry and Meghan find themselves.
He expressed, "This situation is undoubtedly a nightmare for Harry and Meghan since they have been consistently vocal about the dangers of misinformation. It has become a cause close to their hearts, with Harry even assuming a role as a commissioner for the Aspen Institute's Commission on Information Disorder."
Eden continued, "However, now they are facing accusations of spreading misinformation through Joe Rogan's highly popular podcast, while simultaneously being locked into a lucrative £18 million deal with Spotify."
He concluded, "When it comes down to a choice between principles and money, it is always a question of which they will prioritize, and it seems that they have chosen the latter.
While they did release a somewhat vague statement acknowledging the dangers of misinformation, their commitment to Spotify remains unwavering. It appears that Joe Rogan has emerged as the clear 'winner' in this situation."
Charlotte Griffiths, a columnist from the Mail on Sunday, also appeared on the show and expressed her belief that the Sussexes would not return the money in the future. She suggested that there may be underlying technical issues behind the scenes, which could explain why the couple has yet to produce any podcasts.
