Prince Harry finds himself immersed in a sea of legal expenses, despite his relative success in the cases he has pursued.
According to Mark Stephens, a lawyer based in the United Kingdom who works at Howard Kennedy, the Duke of Sussex may be facing a bill ranging from $15 million to $20 million when evaluating his legal situation. This figure exceeds the value of his Montecito mansion, which he shares with his wife Meghan Markle and purchased for $14.7 million.
Stephens stated, "I believe Harry has taken it upon himself to financially support the legal community in London, and as a lawyer, I appreciate that. However, whether it is a prudent decision is another matter altogether."
He further explained that while individuals have the right to bring their cases to court, the reality is that even if they win, they typically do not recover the full extent of their costs. Consequently, Prince Harry is likely to experience a financial deficit, regardless of the outcome.
The lawyer went on to predict that even in the event of victories, Harry may only be able to recover "60 or 70 percent" of his expenses, resulting in a loss overall. Stephens elaborated, "Let's assume he is spending somewhere between £6 million [$7.5 million] and £10 million [$12.5 million] on these cases.
He might recuperate £6 million, but he would still be left with a substantial bill for the remaining amount." Furthermore, if Prince Harry loses any of these cases, he could be liable for an additional £6 million to be paid to the opposing party.
Currently, Prince Harry has six ongoing cases at London's Royal Courts of Justice. Regrettably, he has already suffered a loss in one of these cases, which involved his attempt to challenge the British Government's responsibility to cover his personal security expenses.
