Caroline Flack's mother has spoken out about Prince Harry amid his ongoing court case against Mirror Group Newspapers, claiming that her daughter's phone was hacked while they were seeing each other.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Harry gave evidence against the publishing company for unlawful information gathering, making him the first member of the royal family to testify in court in over a century.
MGN has denied that the article in question was the product of unlawful information gathering, with the exception of one 2004 article about a visit Harry made to China Whites nightclub, for which they unreservedly apologize.
One 2009 article that was examined during his evidence was headlined "Harry's date with Gladiator star" and appeared in The People. The article detailed an evening that Harry spent with Caroline Flack at a friend's Mark Dyer's home in Fulham.
The publication of the article made Harry start doubting Caroline, and he even came to distrust Marco. Harry said, "Given the fact that only the three of us knew the plan, I was highly suspicious and convinced someone had leaked the information to the press."
Flack's mother, Christine, has since said that she's very much so unpleasant with Harry and his trial, and the press intrusion left her daughter struggling to trust people. Christine Flack told the Jeremy Vine show on Thursday, "Whenever a story appeared in the paper, it caused distrust amongst your friends and your family.
When she was seeing Harry, she knew that her phone was being hacked, so we used to use a different telephone," Flack said. "People live in fear of them, but at that time, it was Harry who suspected that my daughter and I were the informants," Vine said of the tabloids.
"It was an endless pain when the tabloids carried false stories about my daughter even after she passed away. However, Harry's actions when he dug into my daughter's death and his memoir didn't receive my consent," she added."And now most of what he wrote in 'Spares' was repeated by him many times as evidence. In response to his failed cross-examination in court, Harry detailed his relationship with Caroline and the aftermath of the night in question and how she was termed his 'bit of rough' in the press," she continued.
"Hypocrite Harry also wrote about the reaction to Caroline's death in 2020, around the time he and his wife Meghan were stepping back from life as working royals. In a lengthy post on Instagram, Mr. Mullen, who says he worked with Flack over 12 years between 2008 and 2020, wrote, 'It's absolutely gross for Prince Harry to reveal such private details about Caroline Flack.
The way in which the press spoke about her at that time and the reason they split are both very sad, and it's disgusting that he's brought up old, long-forgotten slurs that she had to suffer in full view of the public around the world. Of course, Caroline reacted to them with humor and grace, but privately she was deeply hurt. It's just the first of many injustices that she didn't deserve.
Harry's decision to remind all of the terrible things said about her to help sell his appalling book is grotesque.' In the book, Prince Harry says he hadn't known who Flack was when he first met her at a restaurant with friends, telling her, 'I don't watch much TV.'"
