Renowned journalist and former London Assembly chairman, Sir Trevor Phillips, expressed his disappointment, stating that instead of highlighting the progress made in British society since the arrival of the Wind rush generation 75 years ago, the Sussexes opted to construct a narrative centered around their alleged mistreatment.
Sir Trevor noted that Meghan and Harry had the chance to serve as a symbol of discovery and reconciliation, not only for Britain but for the entire world. However, they missed this chance entirely.
Rather than demonstrating the true nature of the country in terms of racial inclusive—where interethnic and interracial marriages are accepted without concern—the couple chose to focus on their own perceived grievances, constructing what he called a "completely ridiculous and unpleasant story" of their mistreatment.
Sir Trevor emphasised that this story lacked credibility and failed to resonate with the general public, as no one truly believed that Meghan's race was a primary issue.
The potential impact that Meghan and Harry could have had on millions of people was immense, but they opted not to utilise their platform for positive change, which Sir Trevor finds unforgivable. In his view, this represents a missed opportunity and a grave misstep on their part, as they could have played a trans formative role in shaping attitudes toward race, both in Britain and globally.
