The tour, initially promoted as the "Royal Celebrity Tour of Los Angeles and Montecito," was designed to take visitors to places frequented by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, including Meghan's former residence and school, as well as various spots the couple had been known to visit.
However, the tour faced swift criticism after tech entrepreneur Christopher Bouzy accused the travel firm, led by Karl Larsen, a friend of Meghan's father, of profiting from the couple's fame while intruding on their privacy. Bouzy expressed his concerns on his social media platform Spoutible, remarking, "The harassment of Harry and Meghan is escalating, and now these deranged people are taking their harassment offline while trying to profit off their harassment. This is sick."
In response to the mounting controversy, the tour company, known as Tripening, took to Twitter, now operating under the name X, to announce the cancellation of the tour.
This development followed Larsen's initial promotion of the tour, where he had identified himself as the "world-famous celebrity photographer Karl Larsen" and emphasized his close association with Thomas Markle, Meghan's father. He had further claimed to possess an exclusive portfolio of images featuring Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Montecito.
