Meghan Markle's Frustration: The Disappointment of Not Living in a Palace Despite Meeting Prince Harry

When Meghan Markle first met Prince Harry, she had the impression that she was living in a palace, as revealed by a royal commentator.  According to royal writer Tom Bow, the Duchess of Sussex was initially impressed by the house Prince Harry called home when they first met. Meghan didn't realize at the time that Harry didn't have significant wealth and wasn't residing in a grand palace. Tom Bow shared this insight in Closer magazine, explaining that Meghan, having lived in a house overlooking the Pacific Ocean before her relationship with Harry, didn't feel pressured to make a substantial income in the UK.

Living in the Royal residence in Nottingham and Frogmore Cottages felt confining to Meghan, with Tom Bow describing it as akin to a "prison" in her eyes. After completing their Royal duties in March 2020, the couple made the move to California, settling in Montecito just outside Santa Barbara. Their new home boasted nine bedrooms, a spa, gym, wine cellar, a five-car garage, all set on 5.4 acres. It was a stark contrast to their more modest abode in England.

Their Montecito residence came complete with a private swimming pool, tennis court, tea room, rose garden, playhouse, and a two-bedroom guest house. The couple left behind British royalty for American celebrity neighbors, sharing their neighborhood with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Orlando Bloom, and Katy Perry.

Prior to moving across the pond, Meghan and Harry lived in Canada briefly before settling into their new California home in July 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. In an upcoming Netflix series set to be released in late 2022, the couple discussed their former residence at Nottingham Cottage in Kensington Palace.

Meghan remarked, "I think Kensington Palace is very nice, of course, it has 'Palace' in the name." However, she also described their Nottingham Cottage as "too small," dispelling the notion that they were living in a grand castle. Harry added humorously, "Everything is on a slight slope, and the ceilings are very low." He then joked about constantly bumping his head due to his tall stature.

Before their move to the United States, Meghan and Harry resided at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, which underwent a £2.4 million renovation before their departure from the UK.
