Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Accused of 'Villainizing' the Royal Family: Anti-Royal Sentiment Fueled by Sussexes, Claims Report

Entertainment Royal journalist Kinsey Schofield asserts that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are being portrayed as villains by the Royal Family, intensifying the ongoing rift between the monarchy and the couple. This year marks the Sussexes' fifth consecutive Christmas spent away from the Royal Family, as they reportedly declined an invitation from King Charles to join the festivities at Sandringham, despite expressing their desire to celebrate the holiday with Prince Harry's family.

Since stepping back from their roles as working royals in 2020, Meghan and Harry have distanced themselves further from the monarchy, making controversial statements, including in a Netflix documentary released last year. In January, Prince Harry's memoir, "Spare," became the fastest-selling non-fiction book of all time. To cap off a tumultuous year, Omid Scobie released his second biography, "Endgame," which leveled additional allegations against the Royal Family. Both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have remained tight-lipped regarding any potential involvement in the book, and Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have chosen not to respond to Scobie's claims.

The couple has hinted at upcoming major projects for the year, with Meghan Markle disclosing at a Variety red carpet event that they have "many projects" in the works. In an interview with GB News, Kinsey Schofield suggested that the recent public backlash against the monarchy's foreign visits might be linked to Meghan and Harry's media endeavors.

Schofield commented, "I believe that Harry and Meghan have portrayed the Royal Family as villains. This portrayal may fuel public protests against them, fueled by news coverage and media reports that depict them as having racist tendencies, as revealed in Harry and Meghan's interview with Oprah Winfrey."

Describing the situation as a roller coaster, Schofield noted that public sentiment can fluctuate, with varying degrees of support or criticism. She speculated on the roles of the Prince and Princess of Wales, emphasizing their increased prominence since the Sussexes' departure in 2020 and even more so since King Charles ascended to the throne in 2022.

Schofield acknowledged, "I think it's the King's time to shine. The only reason we'd see William and Catherine putting themselves out there like this is if the King needs support. They have well-defined missions—Catherine focuses on early years, while Prince William addresses homelessness and climate issues through his awards show. Their strategic communication ensures that the world is aware of their missions, reflected in their lifestyle."
