Prince Harry's Triple Amputee Friend Rejoices as Stolen Prosthetic Legs are Recovered from Car Theft.
Prince Harry's close friend, Mark Ormrod, a triple amputee and Royal Marine
veteran, had a stroke of luck as his stolen prosthetic legs were returned.
Utilizing the power of social media, Ormrod successfully retrieved his
precious limbs after a woman found them in an alley near her house, prompted
by an online appeal to locate the stolen prosthetics.
The 40-year-old veteran shared a video on X (formerly known as Twitter),
showcasing the damage to his vehicle following the theft. In response, the
social media community flooded him with messages of support, and the video
was widely retweeted, generating significant attention.
Ormrod, who lost both legs and his right arm while detonating a Taliban
booby-trap in Helmand Province on Christmas Eve in 2007, expressed his
dismay over the incident on social media. He lamented the fact that someone
would break into a disabled parking space and callously steal equipment
vital for someone's independent living. He also acknowledged that the
thief's actions were likely born out of desperation and difficult
circumstances.
Despite his own adversity, Ormrod extended compassion to the perpetrator,
expressing hope that their circumstances would improve and urging them to
take personal responsibility for their life's trajectory.
Prince Harry, who dubbed Ormrod as Britain's own "superman" during their
meeting in recovery, is a staunch supporter of his friend and their shared
cause. The Duke of Sussex even penned a letter to express his gratitude for
Ormrod's tireless work in support of British veterans.
Additionally, it was revealed that Autoglass promptly repaired the broken
car windshield that the thief had smashed outside a hotel, accomplishing the
task within a remarkable 45 minutes.
Having dedicated a decade of his life to working with charities, Ormrod
decided to take a break in 2021 to spend more time with his family. His
resilience and commitment to helping others have left an indelible impact,
earning him praise from Prince Harry and the wider community.
Prince Harry himself is deeply involved in various charitable endeavors
aimed at rehabilitating wounded, injured, and sick troops. His affiliations
include Travalyst, Sentebale, African Parks, WellChild, and the Invictus
Games.
