The last Invictus Games were held in September 2022 in Dusseldorf, Germany, where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had a successful and impactful presence. While in Germany, they were photographed watching events and interacting with the crowds. Their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, remained at their California home, away from the spotlight.
During their stay in Canada, Prince Harry and Meghan resided on Vancouver Island in a £14 million home in North Saanich, British Columbia. The couple's connection with Canada goes back to when Megan lived in Toronto while filming "Suits." The city also holds sentimental value as it was where the couple was first photographed in public as a couple, and they later got engaged during their temporary stay in the country.
Looking ahead, the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 is set to provide a global platform to expand the scope and format of winter adaptive sports. The Duke of Sussex announced, "With deep respect, I am also pleased to announce that the games in Canada will be held in partnership with First Nations in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous communities." The Canadian and British Columbia governments have pledged nearly £20 million for the games in February 2025, with ongoing consultations with the local Indigenous community to plan the event.
