Although Prince William continues fulfilling his royal duties and his wife, Princess Kate, is in recovery, it's essential to remember that, just like us, they have lives outside the public eye. Their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, are all growing up. With George as the future king, significant decisions are already being considered for his future, even though he is only ten years old. Currently, there is much speculation around where young George will pursue his further education.
It seems Prince William and Princess Kate have different views on the matter, but both have set their sights on a specific school. In October of last year, George was spotted visiting Eton College with his parents, where both his father and uncle attended. This prestigious boarding school has a yearly tuition of approximately £46,000. While George wouldn’t begin at Eton until he turns 13, children must register in the year they turn ten, according to the school’s website.
Choosing Eton for George would say a lot about Princess Kate’s priorities as a mother. Though Kate enjoyed a supportive upbringing with her parents, Carole and Michael, who were successful in business, her early school experience wasn’t always easy. She initially attended Down House, an all-girls boarding school. Despite the school’s esteemed reputation and her parents’ investment, Kate faced hardships there. Since she only attended the school during the day and didn’t board full-time, she struggled to connect with other students and was bullied.
Gemma Williamson, a friend from her later school, remembered Kate as being “thin, pale, and lacking in confidence.” Down House was reportedly a highly competitive environment where students strove to be the best at everything, creating cliques and pressure that Kate struggled with. She was teased for her height and slender frame, standing out among her peers and feeling like an outsider. Starting two years after her classmates only added to the challenge. Even though she was a skilled hockey player, Down House focused on lacrosse, a sport she had never played, leading to further disappointment when she couldn’t make the team.
Eventually, Kate shared her struggles and experiences with her parents, including the bullying she faced. This past likely influences her own values in deciding George’s schooling experience. Both William and Kate have been very hands-on parents, and the choice to send George to boarding school would reflect deeply on their outlook for their children.
