Recent reports suggest that Prince William and Princess Catherine are currently deliberating over an important decision regarding their eldest son, Prince George, as he approaches the end of his time at preparatory school.
Sources close to the royal family reveal that the Prince and Princess of Wales are discussing where to send George next. Catherine, who attended Marlborough College in Wiltshire from 1996 to 2000, reportedly favors a co-educational school for George. Her preference stems from her own experience of attending Marlborough alongside her siblings, Pippa and James, which she remembers fondly. She hopes George might have a similar experience, sharing his school years with Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
On the other hand, Prince William is leaning towards Eton College, the prestigious boys-only boarding school that both he and Prince Harry attended. Known for its long-standing ties to aristocrats and the royal family, Eton holds a special place in William's heart. While George is reportedly excited about the possibility of following in his father’s footsteps, Catherine is said to feel uneasy, describing the institution as "too stuffy."
There is precedent for royal children charting their own educational paths. King Charles III, for instance, attended Gordonstoun in Scotland, but neither William nor Harry followed suit. This flexibility in royal traditions suggests that George might ultimately attend a school outside the Eton mold.
Currently, Prince George is enrolled at Lambrook School, a co-educational institution for children aged 3 to 13, located in the Berkshire countryside. His siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, also attend Lambrook. The family is reportedly very happy with the school, which provides a sense of stability and a nurturing environment for the children to enjoy a balanced and low-key—albeit privileged—childhood.
Life at Adelaide Cottage, the family's home on the grounds of Windsor Castle, is intentionally kept as normal as possible. The Prince and Princess of Wales are hands-on parents and have chosen not to employ live-in staff. Instead, they encourage their children to take on household responsibilities, including helping with chores like cleaning and cooking.
Each child reportedly has their own tasks, with George assigned to clean the guinea pig’s cage. To motivate them, the children receive pocket money for their efforts—a system designed to teach them responsibility and the value of hard work. This approach is inspired by Catherine’s upbringing, as she often helped her parents manage their business, Party Pieces, during her childhood.
Despite these structured routines, the children have plenty of time for fun. After school, they enjoy activities like baking with their mom, riding bikes, playing on the trampoline, and watching TV. All three are also said to be passionate about sports, with Catherine frequently spotted cheering them on at football matches near their Windsor home.
Whatever choice William and Catherine ultimately make regarding George’s next school, it will undoubtedly prioritize his well-being and future as a prospective king. For now, the family appears to be thriving in their balance of royal duties and maintaining a grounded, loving home environment.
