Palace Holds Discussions Over Major Decision After Meghan Markle’s Return

Since stepping down from royal duties in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seem to be in an increasingly strained relationship with the royal family.

The Duchess of Sussex kicked off the year with a bombshell, unveiling the trailer for her Netflix series. Meanwhile, Prince Harry is said to have plans for his charity work as the couple continues to pursue separate professional paths, away from the royal spotlight.

As the Sussexes move further into their independent careers, discussions are reportedly taking place at the Palace regarding what the future holds for Prince Harry’s position in the line of succession.

Currently, Prince Harry is fifth in line to the throne, followed by his two children—five-year-old Prince Archie and three-year-old Princess Lilibet—while Meghan’s position is not part of the discussion.

Any potential changes to the line of succession would require a lengthy process and the involvement of Parliament, but that hasn't stopped the royal family from holding meetings to address the issue, according to royal experts.

Royal commentator Phil Dampier shared his thoughts with *The Sun*, saying, “Harry and Meghan’s problem is that they’ve tried to have their cake and eat it. They’ve tried to have one foot in both camps.”

“They are still in the line of succession, quite high up, as are their children. But they’re also trying to do their own thing. That’s the basic problem that I’m sure King Charles and the courtiers are grappling with.”

He went on to add, “If they push the commercialization too far or continue to make public insults toward the royal family, they may have to reconsider their position in the line of succession.”

For now, Dampier suggests, the Sussexes are "getting away with both being in the line of succession, keeping their titles, and doing their own thing," but this could change if they upset the royals once again.
