Meghan Markle’s Number Is MIA: Wendell Pierce Throws Subtle Shade in New TV Role
Meghan Markle’s former *Suits* co-star, Wendell Pierce, just couldn't resist a cheeky jab at the Duchess of Sussex in his latest TV role on CBS's *Elsbeth*.
Pierce, who played Meghan's on-screen father in the hit legal drama, has since moved on to a new project, where he portrays Captain Charles Wallace Wagner in the police procedural. And in a hilarious upcoming episode titled *Unalive and Well*, Pierce’s character takes a playful swipe at his former co-star.
The scene in question involves Wagner introducing a homicide case about a young man found dead on the highway, with a not-so-subtle reference to Meghan Markle.
"The last place he was seen was some fancy spa where celebrities and royals go to," Wagner quips, setting the stage for the punchline. He adds, "The global press was already trying to frame Meghan Markle, and she wasn’t even there!"
Clearly, Wendell’s time working with Meghan on *Suits* has given him plenty of material to draw from— and this line is a perfect example of his signature humor.
Despite the playful jab, Pierce has remained on good terms with Meghan. In fact, he recently gave a shoutout to their ongoing friendship during the 2024 Tony Awards in New York, where he shared that there’s no bad blood between them.
Speaking to *PEOPLE* magazine, Wendell recalled a warm moment when he caught up with Meghan and Prince Harry during their 2023 visit to New York.
"When Meghan came into town, she got an award last year, and I had a chance to say hello and wish them well," Pierce explained. "They look very much in love and were very happy, so that’s the most important thing."
His kind words came after the couple's highly publicized appearance at the 2023 *Women of Vision* award ceremony, a highlight of Meghan’s year.
However, not all reunions have been as harmonious. When *Suits* stars gathered at the 2023 Golden Globes, rumors of a potential show reboot began circulating, but one key person was noticeably absent: Meghan.
When asked if any of the stars had reached out to her, *Suits* actress Gina Torres, who played Jessica Pearson, dropped a surprising revelation: “We don’t have her number anymore.”
While the absence of Meghan’s contact information may be noteworthy, Wendell’s relationship with her hasn’t always been entirely smooth. In March 2021, Pierce publicly criticized Meghan and Prince Harry for their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, questioning the timing of the interview during a global pandemic.
Though Wendell’s recent remarks have been lighthearted, his past comments show that their relationship has seen its ups and downs—though, as Pierce’s recent words suggest, there’s no ill will between the two.
