Prince William has always been a loving older brother, showering Prince Harry with affection and admiration. Their bond, once inseparable, was a source of public affection, with William showing endless care through hugs and kisses at every opportunity.
A rare and heartfelt handwritten letter from Diana, Princess of Wales, recently sold for a staggering £10,000 at auction, nearly ten times its original estimate. The two-page letter, written on Kensington Palace stationery in September 1984, offers a rare glimpse into the royal family’s life shortly after Harry’s birth.
The letter was addressed to Violet Collison, affectionately called "Collie," who was the head housekeeper at Diana’s parents’ Sandringham Estate. Initially expected to fetch just £1,200, the letter far surpassed expectations, selling for a record-breaking price at Sworders Fine Art Auctioneers. This sale highlights the enduring public fascination with Diana’s life and legacy.
In her letter, Diana fondly described William’s affection for his newborn brother, writing, “William adores his little brother and spends the entire time pouring an endless supply of hugs and kisses over Harry.” She added with her trademark wit, “It’s wonderful to watch, if we’re allowed near!”
The note, written as a thank-you for Harry’s first Christmas present, was composed on crowned "D" Kensington Palace stationery, further elevating its historical significance. Collectors and royal fans alike celebrated the sale, reflecting on Diana's enduring ability to touch hearts with her genuine and heartfelt words.
