Meghan Markle Reminded She’s ‘Lucky’ for Publicity She Got in 2017 Vanity Fair Interview
Meghan Markle is being called out for what some see as an ungrateful attitude during her 2017 Vanity Fair interview, long before she became the Duchess of Sussex. Back then, Meghan, who went on to marry Prince Harry in 2018, reportedly asked former Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter not to focus the cover story on her then-boyfriend, Prince Harry. But now, a former royal photographer is saying she should have been more appreciative of the spotlight she received.
Speaking to The Sun, veteran photographer Arthur Edwards didn’t hold back. “She had nothing to moan about,” he said bluntly. At the time of the interview, Meghan was relatively unknown to the public. Edwards pointed out, “I never heard of her when I first heard she was linked with Harry. No one I knew had heard of her. No one in my family had heard of her. She was a complete unknown.”
He went on to argue that Meghan was fortunate to get that kind of exposure. “I think she was lucky to get that publicity,” Edwards added. “I mean, that’s what she always sought—publicity. She wanted to say what a great actress she was.” The 2017 Vanity Fair cover, which famously declared “She’s Just Wild About Harry,” thrust Meghan into the global spotlight, a move that many believe helped elevate her profile before her royal wedding the following year.
