Prince Harry Back at Court of Appeal for Final Showdown with Home Office
Prince Harry was all smiles as he stepped back into the Court of Appeal for the last day of his intense legal fight with the Home Office. The battle? It’s all about his security arrangements in the UK, and the Duke of Sussex looked ready to take it on with confidence as he awaited the big ruling.
Harry’s been challenging the Home Office ever since his High Court case got shot down. That case was about a decision by Ravec—the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures—which slashed the top-tier security he once had from the Metropolitan Police. And now, it’s crunch time.
On Tuesday, the appeal kicked off with Harry’s lawyer, Shaheed Fatima KC, coming out swinging. She told the court that Harry’s been unfairly “singled out” and handed “inferior treatment” after Ravec made its call back in February 2020. According to her, the committee didn’t even stick to its own rules when it decided to downgrade his protection. Instead, they cooked up what they called a “bespoke process” just for him.
“‘Bespoke’ doesn’t mean better,” Fatima argued in front of the judges. “In fact, our stance is that it’s a fancy word for treating him differently—and worse—without any good reason.”
In her written arguments, Fatima didn’t hold back. She stressed that this case isn’t just some royal squabble—it’s about “the most basic right: personal safety and security.” That’s what’s on the line here.
Harry’s team also pointed out that after stepping back from royal duties in January 2020, the Sussexes had every intention of supporting the late Queen as privately funded royals. But clearly, things didn’t go as planned, and now they’re fighting to make their case heard loud and clear.
