Prince Harry Criticized for Chasing Celebrities Instead of Fixing Charity Dispute
A royal expert has criticized Prince Harry for failing to properly resolve a dispute involving his long-time charity, choosing instead to spend more time mingling with celebrities.
The issue surrounds Sentebale, a charity Harry co-founded in 2006 with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in memory of his mother, Princess Diana. The charity supports young people and children living with HIV and AIDS.
Earlier this year, both Harry and Prince Seeiso resigned from their positions following a public fallout with Dr. Sophie Chandauka, a Zimbabwe-born lawyer who became chair of the trustees in 2023. The dispute reportedly became public and was described as a “total mess” by royal author Phil Dampier.
According to Dampier, a charity commission report blamed both sides for the tensions. He noted that Dr. Chandauka had concerns about Harry playing polo at glamorous locations for fundraising, believing it wasn’t the right image for the charity.
“I don’t understand why Harry couldn’t just talk to her and sort it out,” Dampier said. “If he spent less time in court or at showbiz events in California, he could have dealt with it.”
This latest controversy comes shortly after Meghan Markle celebrated her 44th birthday with family in California. Since stepping down as working royals in 2020, Harry and Meghan have lived in the U.S., away from the British royal family.
