Meghan Markle and Prince Harry just received a big reality check about their future in Hollywood — especially after the changes to their Netflix deal.
Netflix has renewed their contract, but it looks like the new deal isn’t as impressive as their original $100 million agreement. Many people, including royal fans and media experts, believe this is actually a downgrade for the couple.
A crisis expert named Dermot McNamara explained that this isn’t exactly embarrassing for Meghan and Harry, but it is a clear sign that Netflix wants to be careful. The streaming company is now more selective and doesn’t want to spend huge amounts of money unless they see strong creative ideas.
He also mentioned that all streaming platforms are budgeting more strictly these days. They want high-quality, original content before spending money. Netflix will now use a "first-look policy", which means Meghan and Harry can pitch their ideas — but Netflix isn’t required to approve or pay for all of them like before.
Even though this change feels like a setback, the expert also said it could be a chance for them to truly figure out what they want to create and what their brand is all about. It might help them become more focused creatively.
There are still projects ahead:
-
Season 2 of With Love, Meghan is coming this month
-
A documentary about the Masaka Kids is also set to release this year
