Expert Questions Strength of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s New Netflix Deal
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s renewed deal with Netflix has surprised many — and not everyone thinks it’s a big win for the couple.
While some believe Meghan has proved critics wrong, others argue the new agreement may not be as strong as it seems.
Royal biographer Hugo Vickers shared his view with The Sun, saying the Sussexes weren’t in a powerful position when negotiating.
“I don’t think they could pressure Netflix because they’re not in a very strong bargaining position,” Vickers explained.
He believes Netflix’s main motivation is the publicity Harry and Meghan bring to the platform, rather than the financial value of their projects. According to him, the deal might even be cheaper this time, possibly including a “first look” clause that gives Netflix the right to see their ideas first before approving production.
Vickers also suggested that the couple’s lavish lifestyle plays a big role in their need to keep such partnerships going.
“They lead a very expensive life. Once the money runs out — and if their popularity drops — they could be in trouble,” he warned.
The couple, who live in a Montecito mansion worth over $14.65 million (now estimated at around $29 million), announced the renewal on Monday. Meghan later released a statement praising the collaboration:
“My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision.”
While the deal ensures Harry and Meghan remain in Netflix’s creative network, questions remain over whether it’s as lucrative as their original agreement.
