Prince Harry has stated that he wants to "reconcile" with the rest of the British royal family in an interview with the BBC, in which he also confessed that he is currently not on speaking terms with his father, King Charles III.
"Some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book, and they'll never forgive me for many other things, but I would love a reconciliation with my family. There's no point in fighting anymore; life is precious," he confessed.
"It would be great to have that reconciliation. If they don't want it, that's their problem," he pointed out.
In that regard, the Duke of Sussex, younger son of King Charles III, said that he is currently estranged from the monarch, who is battling cancer of unknown origin: "I don't know how much longer my father has to live. He doesn't speak to me for security reasons," he added.
The Duke of Sussex was referring to the legal challenge filed against the British Home Office regarding the level of police security to which he and his family are entitled when visiting the country, which a Court of Appeal judge dismissed on Friday.
Reversing the Royal Protection Committee's Changes
The prince wanted to reverse the changes that the Royal and Public Figures Protection Committee (RAVEC) had introduced in 2020, when he stepped down from his duties as a working member of the royal family and moved to the United States.
During the BBC interview, conducted in California, he was asked if he had asked King Charles III to intervene in the security dispute.
"My father has a great deal of control and ability. Ultimately, this whole matter could have been resolved through him, not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside and letting the experts do their job," he replied.
Prince Harry loses appeal against British government over his security level
The UK Court of Appeal on Friday dismissed Prince Harry's appeal in his dispute with the British government over the level of police security he is entitled to when visiting the country.
"After examining the detailed documents, we conclude that a sense of grievance cannot be established as a legal argument to challenge" the decision of the Royal and Public Figures Protection Executive Committee (RAVEC), the body that made the decision, said Judge Geoffrey Vos, one of the three judges who heard the case.
The judges also maintained that Harry and Meghan were "moving in and out" of RAVEC's protection detail, as "outside the UK he was outside the system, but when he was inside his security was deemed appropriate."
"It was impossible to say that this reasoning was illogical or inappropriate; in fact, it seemed sensible," the court added, maintaining that the agency's decision was "understandable, and perhaps even foreseeable."
The judge added, before a courtroom that Harry did not attend, that the prince's defense arguments were "powerful and moving" and that it was "evident he felt mistreated by the system."
The Duke of Sussex, who did appear in court for two hearings related to the case, filed a lawsuit against the Home Office after the reduction in the level of protection afforded by British taxpayers when the prince visits the United Kingdom.
The Duke of Sussex said he was "disappointed" about the legal defeat and added: "At this moment, I cannot imagine a world in which I can bring my wife and children back to the United Kingdom," a country he said he misses.
During the legal dispute, Enrique claimed that he was "forced" to step away from the monarchy after feeling unprotected following death threats from the terrorist group Al Qaeda.
