Meghan Markle Turned 44, and We're Remembering 3 Iconic Hairstyles You Can Do at Home
Free from royal duties, Meghan Markle celebrated her 44th birthday in her native England with Prince Harry and their children. Although, according to recent reports, the Duchess of Sussex didn't hold the celebration that had been speculated about, her impeccable and casual style is worth highlighting and replicating. If you love her looks as much as we do, don't miss these tips for achieving her iconic hairstyles.
While she was part of the royal family, we saw her debut numerous hairstyles, all with a common denominator: sleek and understated. One day she'd appear with spectacular loose waves, the next with a low ponytail—always elegant—or the comfort of a messy updo. Meghan's simplicity is her main attribute, and her looks, suitable for any occasion, are worth replicating at any time. We've chosen three and will tell you the keys to making them look perfect.
1.Relaxed Waves
Fresh and easygoing, this hairstyle stands out for its versatility. Simply change the side part and it looks completely different. You can add accessories like a headband or clips, or even pull it back into a low ponytail when it's not quite as perfect. Loose waves are achieved with a curling iron; the thickness of the barrel will depend on the length of your hair. Generally, opt for a medium diameter, and if you have very long hair, you can choose a wider one.
“Separate your hair into sections and start with the strands at the nape of your neck. Select sections about two fingers wide and wrap them around the curling iron. Wait 3 seconds and release. It's key to keep the curling iron vertical (parallel to the strand you're curling),” explains Marisol Aburto, an educator at Palumbo Hair Salons. Don't touch the strands until they cool, apply a hairspray, and you're done.
2. The Bun or Tomato: Always a Winner
Formal and modern, this hairstyle is a lifesaver, showing off your neck and shoulders. It looks incredibly elegant for special occasions, and in its relaxed or "messy" version, it's perfect for everyday wear. This updo can be worn without a part or in the middle. Simply gather your hair into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck and twist it around itself. Here are two options: 1) make it tight, or 2) leave a few strands loose in the front for a more casual effect. You can secure it with bobby pins. Finally, apply hairspray to the entire bun, making sure there are no stray, frizzy hairs.
3. The Low Ponytail: Sophistication in 5 Minutes
This is a classic for its elegance and simplicity. It's a hairstyle that's always seen on the runways and looks fantastic with any outfit. To achieve that silky, polished look, Marisol recommends straightening your hair first (always applying a heat protectant spray), then styling it as usual, leaving one of the bottom strands loose, as you'll use it later to cover the hair tie or elastic. Secure it with a bobby pin, and you're done. If you have thin or fine hair, opt for soft waves instead of straightening; this will give you volume and make the hairstyle look much more polished.
