When the Queen married Prince Philip in 1947, she received a veritable treasure from the then Hakim of Bahrain, including seven pearls nestled in a shell. Two of these pearls were used to create the earrings that now adorn Kate Middleton's set, paired with a five-strand pearl necklace.
