Why Meghan Markle Has Allegedly Set Off Alarm Bells in Royal Circles

Reports suggest growing unease within royal circles following Meghan Markle’s latest visit to Australia alongside Prince Harry.

According to The Telegraph, the Palace is reportedly “considerably concerned” about what some perceive as the increasing commercial aspect of Meghan’s wardrobe choices during her public appearances.

A source cited by the outlet claimed there is frustration over what they see as a repeated pattern. They suggested that public criticism is often followed by adjustments or explanations, including claims of charitable intent. The insider remarked that while monetising public influence is not unusual, combining fundraising-style appearances with the promotion of purchasable outfits during official engagements has raised eyebrows, with some feeling it sends mixed messages.

Another commentator, described as a close associate, went further, suggesting that while personal branding is expected, turning a visit that includes a children’s hospital appearance into an opportunity to promote and sell fashion items online has, in their view, “crossed a line.”

During their return visit to Australia—their first since 2018—Harry and Meghan spent time in Melbourne engaging with various community groups and organisations focused on healthcare, recovery, and social support. Their itinerary included meeting families dealing with medical challenges, women rebuilding their lives, and veteran families, highlighting themes of service and community connection.

The couple also visited Bondi on the final day of their brief trip, where they were seen walking barefoot along the beach alongside first responders from the Bondi Beach Surf Lifesaving Club.

While their visit was generally met with a warm public reception, some critics have raised questions about the cost of security arrangements funded by taxpayers, which continue to accompany their overseas engagements.
