Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Australia Tour Is Sparking Brutal Backlash

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have come under strong criticism following their recent four-day trip to Australia, with a royal commentator accusing the couple of presenting themselves in a “royal-style” manner despite no longer carrying out official royal duties.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended several engagements linked to their ongoing personal and professional projects during the visit, which was conducted under heightened security. While some observers described the trip as resembling a traditional royal tour, others pointed out that it did not carry the same scale or public impact as their 2018 visit, when they were still working members of the Royal Family.

Royal commentator Jane Moore was particularly critical, suggesting the couple continues to benefit from their royal titles despite stepping back from official roles. She claimed they are heavily relying on their Duke and Duchess status while conducting overseas appearances that resemble royal engagements.

Reflecting on their departure from royal duties, Moore referenced the late Queen Elizabeth II’s reported stance that working royals could not operate in a “half-in, half-out” capacity. She suggested that the couple’s move to the United States marked a clear break from royal responsibilities at the time.

However, she added that years later, Harry and Meghan continue to attract attention for appearances that resemble official tours, describing them as “royals for sale,” while questioning whether there is any real effort to prevent such comparisons from being made.
