On May 6, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, shared a special post on Instagram to honor her son’s birthday, giving the public a rare and personal look into their family life. Archie, the couple’s eldest child, was born in May 2019. They later welcomed their daughter, Princess Lilibet, in June 2021, who is now four years old.
In her caption, Meghan wrote, “7 years later… happy birthday to our sweet boy 🤍,” alongside two meaningful photographs highlighting different stages of Archie’s life.
One image, never seen before, shows Prince Harry gently holding a newborn Archie as he sleeps on his chest, wrapped in a soft blanket while they relax on a couch. The second photo, taken more recently, shows Archie walking along a beach near the family’s Montecito home with his younger sister Lilibet. Archie is seen carrying a walking stick, and both children’s red hair—an inherited family trait—stands out in the sunlight.
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan have been raising their children in Montecito, California, where they aim to provide a more grounded and private upbringing. Meghan has previously shared that creating a sense of normal everyday life for her children is very important to them.
She once explained to PEOPLE magazine that people who know them well understand their desire for their children to experience a childhood as ordinary and balanced as possible, despite their public profiles.
That everyday lifestyle also includes simple “day dates” between Meghan and Archie. She has shared that they enjoy spending time together over casual meals like burgers, Caesar salad, and ice cream sundaes topped with cherries.
Although the Sussex family generally keeps their children out of the public eye, Meghan has gradually begun sharing occasional glimpses of Archie and Lilibet on her personal and lifestyle-related social media accounts since returning to Instagram in 2025.
Both children are noted for having inherited Prince Harry’s distinctive red hair—a trait he has openly credited to his late mother, Princess Diana’s side of the family. Harry once joked on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that the “ginger gene” is very strong in his family, admitting he initially thought Meghan’s genetics might overpower it, but he was pleasantly surprised.
Despite their private upbringing, these rare family moments continue to draw attention from royal watchers and fans alike.
