The survey, which sampled over 2,000 British adults, has sparked fresh debate about the couple’s public image. According to commentary from showbiz reporter Fran Winston, the results reflect a noticeable shift in how the British public views the Sussexes compared to earlier years.
Winston expressed strong criticism, suggesting that the couple “continue to rely on their royal connections” while also believing they are still entitled to recognition or rewards because of their past royal roles. She argued that there is a lack of accountability in how their actions are perceived by the public.
She further noted that the poll results may indicate a growing change in public sentiment, with people becoming more critical over time. In her view, if Harry and Meghan want to rebuild credibility, they would need to reduce perceptions of entitlement and focus more on dignity and responsibility in their public behaviour.
The poll results showed a clear ranking among senior royals. Prince William led the list with a 76% approval rating, closely followed by Catherine, Princess of Wales at 75%. Other royals also appeared in the rankings, including Sarah Ferguson, who received 14%.
In comparison, Meghan Markle recorded a 22% rating, while Prince Harry stood at 33%, placing them significantly lower than senior working royals.
Public reactions online also added to the debate, with some commenters attaching strong personal labels to the couple. Meghan was described by critics as “materialistic” and “shallow,” while Prince Harry was labeled “disloyal” and “insecure” by others expressing negative opinions.
