The Duke and Duchess of Sussex purchased the California property for around $14 million (£10.4 million) in 2020, shortly after stepping away from their roles as working members of the British royal family. The sprawling mansion has since become home to the couple and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
However, recent claims suggest that maintaining the lavish property could become increasingly challenging. According to US commentator Maureen Callahan, rumors have been circulating that Harry and Meghan may eventually have to consider moving to a smaller home. The couple themselves have not publicly addressed these reports, although media outlets have sought comment from their representatives.
Speaking during an episode of The Royals Uncensored, Callahan argued that the Sussexes are finding it more difficult to generate income from the opportunities that once attracted widespread public interest. She suggested that much of that attention stemmed from their connections to the Royal Family and the revelations they shared after leaving royal duties.
Callahan claimed that the flow of new royal-related stories has diminished, reducing one of the key factors that previously helped drive public and commercial interest in the couple. As a result, she said, reports have emerged suggesting that downsizing their Montecito home could become a consideration.
The commentator also pointed to recent reports indicating that Meghan Markle may be exploring a return to acting. Before marrying Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan built a successful career in television, most notably through her role in the legal drama Suits.
Since relocating to the United States and stepping back from royal life in 2020, Harry and Meghan have pursued several business ventures to support their lifestyle. These have included high-profile partnerships with Netflix and Spotify, podcast projects, public speaking engagements, and other media-related opportunities.
More recently, Meghan has focused significant attention on her lifestyle brand, As Ever, which launched last year. The venture is believed to be one of her primary priorities as she continues expanding the brand and introducing new products to consumers.
