Why Is Prince Harry Being Put on Blast by a Former Royal Employee?

Prince Harry has once again found himself at the center of criticism, with renewed claims suggesting that ongoing controversies around him are largely self-inflicted, according to remarks made by a former royal employee.

Recent attention has focused on allegations linked to African Parks, a conservation organization operating in the Republic of the Congo, which has been accused by some campaigners of serious human rights concerns involving Indigenous Baka communities. These developments have contributed to fresh scrutiny of Harry’s earlier charitable associations.

Speaking on TalkTV with host Mark Dolan, former royal butler Grant Harrold commented on what he described as a persistent pattern of negative headlines surrounding the Duke of Sussex, saying that the issues connected to his public life “never seem to stop.”

During the discussion, Harrold compared Harry’s situation with that of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, noting that the late monarch experienced relatively few legal or public controversies throughout her long reign, whereas Harry has frequently appeared in the press in connection with various disputes and allegations.

He also suggested that ongoing reputational challenges may be impacting the wider perception of initiatives associated with Harry, including charitable projects such as the Invictus Games. Referring to previous difficulties involving Sentebale, he argued that concerns about the “Sussex brand” may risk overshadowing the charitable mission itself, particularly its focus on supporting veterans.

According to Harrold, even well-regarded charitable work linked to Harry has become complicated by repeated controversies, making it harder for organizations to remain unaffected by public debate surrounding him.

He further added that if Harry were still actively serving as a working member of the Royal Family with strong internal ties, these types of issues might not arise in the same way. In his view, being closely aligned with the institution could have helped maintain a more stable public and professional environment.

Harrold also reflected on how charities themselves may feel caught in a difficult position, potentially supportive of Harry personally while also considering the reputational risks of association amid ongoing scrutiny. He concluded by suggesting that, in his opinion, Harry has played a role in creating some of these challenges, while acknowledging the complexity of the situation surrounding him.
