Meghan Markle's wedding dress: Will she shine in a classic white dress like Kate, or will she ditch tradition again?

Meghan Markle's wedding dress: Will she shine in a classic white dress like Kate, or will she ditch tradition again?

Meghan Markle was quite busy during Christmas. In addition to the fact that Queen Elizabeth II broke protocol and invited her to Sandringham, although only married couples are usually allowed there, the first designs of her wedding dress have appeared.

Will she follow in the footsteps of royal traditions and prefer a dress similar to the one worn by Duchess Kate , will she be inspired by the model she wore at her first wedding, or will she surprise everyone again? The first glimpses of what bride Meghan Markle might look like on May 19 have finally appeared! The designs are by Israeli designer Inbal Dror, who also designed Beyoncé's (36) dress for the 2016 Grammy Awards, and has dressed model Bar Rafaeli (32) and other celebrities.

Ibal Dror showed two designs, which are quite different. One could say that the first one is more inspired by the dresses worn by royal brides, while the second one is a bit more daring. However, neither of them resembles the ones Meghan wore at her first wedding.

Jamaican wedding

From the photos published by the American magazine Star Show, it is clear that Meghan Markle's first wedding was much more relaxed than what awaits her now. It took place in Jamaica, the party took place on the beach, where the wedding guests had fun playing various games in their swimsuits. The bride's dress also matched the whole spirit of the wedding. It was apparently simple, without sleeves and straps, with a decorated belt. Her hair was loose and her makeup was really subtle.

Meghan Markle has already worn a white dress once. Will she do it again? This tradition was only spread by Queen Victoria in 1840, when she married Prince Albert. Until then, colored ones were more common. But Victoria wanted to shine as a queen. And many women wanted to be like her.

Only over time did they start to be perceived as they are today - a symbol of something new, immaculate. So can a divorcee wear one? For example, Camilla (71), the wife of Prince Charles (69), did not wear a white dress in 2005 because she was also divorced. So will Meghan wear a snow-white one, or perhaps a cream or ivory one?

The tradition of royal brides

This is not entirely certain from the designs. But what is certain is that the first wedding was definitely not what would guide the hand of designer Inbal Dror. It is obvious from both designs. They rather stick to the traditions of the dresses of the royal brides of Lady Diana (†36), Duchess Kate and Queen Elizabeth II herself (91). That is, they have long sleeves and a narrow waist. However, that is perhaps the only connection between the two designs.

Otherwise, one has a rich wide skirt, while the other perfectly outlines the curves and has a narrow lower part. It looks much more "sexy", which suits Meghan Markle a little more. Let's not forget that as an American she likes to be expressive and eccentric, so she doesn't stick to traditions too much and is rather innovative.

In the first design, you will also find other identical elements to the dress that Duchess Kate also wore. In addition to the aforementioned long sleeves, long wide skirt and narrow waist, the design for Meghan Markle also has a V-neck and a higher lace collar. Then there is the embellishment, which is shown at the waist and then at the bottom of the dress in the design by Inbal Dror, very similar to what Duchess Kate wore.

The second one is more daring

With its V-neckline and wide skirt, it may also resemble the dress that Lady Diana wore on her big day, but the similarity probably ends there. It is rather unlikely that the designer would have been inspired by the groom's mother and borrowed, for example, wide balloon sleeves when designing.

However, the second design, which is less traditional and the skirt is not wide, but hugs the bride's body, can be found in a small connection with Princess Diana's dress. The design has the note "long long train", which means that the dress should have a really long train. Diana's was almost eight meters long, while Duchess Kate's was "only" something around three meters. Will Meghan Markle surpass their length? We'll see, these designs are definitely not final, and the bride can still choose another designer.
