Lady Gaga and Versace Collaborate On a Major Pride Collection
Lady Gaga may be a fan of a variety of labels, but Versace has always had a special place in her heart. She’s shown her love for the company in the past by donning unique looks during her 2017 Super Bowl performance, featuring in the spring/summer 2014 collection commercials, and dedicating a single to Donatella on ArtPop.
Gaga, on the other hand, announced her most significant Versace partnership to date today. Gaga and Donatella have collaborated on a capsule collection to benefit the Born This Way Foundation, the singer’s charity committed to mental health help for young people, particularly within the LGBTQIA+ community, in honor of Pride and the 10th anniversary of Born This Way.
The cooperation begins with a specially designed T-shirt and matching beret with rainbow shades and the house’s signature Medusa insignia. The pièce de résistance is a handcrafted duplicate of the Versace leather jacket Gaga wore on her Born This Way Ball tour, which will be available on Versace’s website starting today.
The item was the standout of her performance attire, with its pointed shoulders and metal mesh. The new version, which took 400 hours to handcraft at Versace’s Milan workshop, is expected to be just as eye-catching as the original. It remains to be seen whether it will break records when it goes up for auction, but collectors are sure to be interested.
Gaga and Donatella were eager to share their enthusiasm for the project with the world, given their long friendship and the altruistic aspect of the partnership. Gaga wrote in an Instagram update where she posed in both the beret and T-shirt. “Versace has always been a leader. Since Gianni, Donatella, Allegra, and still now, they have celebrated the beautiful colors of love we have within us,”. Donatella’s also said, “Gaga and her foundation are so inspiring,” the designer wrote in a statement. “Our friendship and our efforts to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion have only become stronger with time.”
