Queen Elizabeth II: why the use of her nickname Lilibet would not please her?
Meghan and Harry chose Lilibet as their daughter's first name. This is the nickname that her husband gave to Queen Elizabeth II, the choice would not enchant her too much.
Believing to do well and to pay homage to Queen Elizabeth II, Harry and Meghan named their daughter Lilibet Diana. They predicted that the princess will be known by the name "Lili". Lilibet and Diana refer to the queen's nickname and Princess Diana, the baby's grandmother, respectively. However, royal biographer Angela Levin claims that this choice is rudeness that desperately displeases Queen Elizabeth II.
The royal biographer spoke about the choice of first name on Good Morning Britain on ITV. She said: "I think she is hopelessly unhappy because they have been hopelessly rude to her". According to the expert, Lilibet is a very private and special nickname that the Duke of Edinburgh - whose death is very recent - used to call his wife. The biographer goes on to state that even Prince Charles had never called his mother by the nickname Lilibet so special to Prince Philip.
"Did they ask him ... the Queen?"
Royal correspondent Peter Ford and presenter Kylie Gillies have also spoken out about Lilibet's first name. They wonder if Meghan and Harry sought permission from Queen Elizabeth II before using this private nickname.
Everything suggests not, and Mrs. Gillies continues by emphasizing the fact that: "They form a couple of contradictions, it is Meghan and Harry". Peter Ford also states that it is frowned upon to use someone's private nickname, especially since the origins of the nickname are said to be unclear. Mr Ford goes on to say: "Some say this is what Margaret called her sister, others say this is what Philip called his wife."
