The secrets of the Lady Di statue that William and Harry will discover
The sculpture will be unveiled on July 1, but the truth is that it has been ready since 2018.
There is great expectation for what the reunion of princes William and Harry will be like on July 1, when they will discover the effigy of her mother, on the occasion of what would have been her sixtieth birthday if she were alive.
The brothers, as has been widely reported, have a long confrontation, but decided to make a truce on the occasion of the event. All so that their differences do not cloud the act, which is intended to be an emotional celebration and to rescue the positive impact of his mother's work.
But, the princes' fight is just one of several pitfalls and setbacks around the monument.
Shortly after Diana's death in 1997, discussions began about how best to honor her in an enduring way. In principle, the idea of the sculpture was frowned upon.
It was said, for example, that there was no sculptor who could capture Diana. It was also objected that the work could give rise to the emergence of a kind of sanctuary, given the devotion that Diana aroused in her lifetime. Not surprisingly, Prime Minister Tony Blair christened her "the people's princess."
Before the eventual approval of the idea, confusion also arose about in what period of her life the first wife of Prince Charles should be eternalized.
Over the years, those resentments were diluted and the children of the Princess of Wales decided to promote the project, which is not being financed by themselves, who, rather, sought donations in the private sector. Contributors include singer Elton John, a close friend of Diana, and her husband David Furnish.
What many do not know is that the statue has been ready since 2018, but events such as Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle and their retirement as active members of the royal family, delayed its discovery.
Of course, the anxiety to know what the statue of Diana looks like is very great. After all, her figure is still recognized in the four corners of the planet and she is one of the most photographed people in history.
William and Harry commissioned the sculpture to artist Ian Rank-Broadley. He is by no means a stranger to royalty, as he is the author of the portrait of Queen Elizabeth that appears on UK coins.
Regarding the inauguration ceremony of the monument, the local press has reported that the princes were forced to drastically reduce the size of an event that aspired to bring together more than 100 friends, employees and people who gave special help to Diana in their difficulties. But the limitations imposed by the current health crisis forced them to reduce the guest list to a minimum.
However, the celebration has only been postponed to September, according to the Daily Mail, according to which many of Diana's friends cannot wait to meet with them and seek some way of understanding and reconciliation between them.
William and Harry grew up very close and that bond became much closer as a result of the premature death of his mother, when the first was 15 years old and his brother was about to turn 13.
For years, they were an example of brotherly affection, but when Harry decided to marry the American actress Meghan Markle, William did not see her favorably. Their violent fights about it have been made public, by various sources, and today, basically, they are not talked about.
Last April, during the funeral of Prince Philip, their grandfather, William asked not to walk in the funeral procession with Harry, so his cousin Peter Phillips had to be brought between the two.
It was believed that the brothers' talk after the religious service would be the beginning of peace, but within a few days Harry made himself felt with a new barrage of criticism of the royal family, similar to those he expressed when he and his wife gave her incendiary interview to Oprah Winfrey.
The statue will be located in a special place in Kensington Palace, in one of whose spacious apartments Diana lived with Charles and her children.
