The Grammy Awards are one of the greatest instances of celebration of music and its successes. However, throughout their history they have also been the subject of multiple controversies. One of these is related to Jennifer Lopez and it was so great that she led to the creation of Google Photos.
Did Jennifer Lopez create Google Photos?
Nowadays, searching for images on the internet is made very easy thanks to the availability of platforms. However, before Google Photos this was much more difficult and much of its creation is due to Jennifer Lopez.
In the early 2000s, the platform was mostly text. But users evolve fast and were already demanding the creation of new tools to take the Internet to the next step. This was pointed out by the same former CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt.
This became evident in 2000, when a new Grammy gala was held. As usual, multiple artists and guests walked the red carpet, showing off their best designs. However, the one who attracted the most attention was Jennifer Lopez.
The singer and actress wore a green Versace dress with a wide neckline. She quickly became a phenomenon, and people turned to Google for photos of Jennifer Lopez's stunning dress.
However, Google did not yet have the tool to display photos of Jennifer Lopez in the controversial dress. It became the most popular search in the platform's history, but they didn't have a way to give people what they wanted.
Thus, from Google they were inspired to take things to the next level and be able to add this new tool. Of course, it did not happen from one day to the next as you might believe, but Jennifer Lopez definitely inspired the creation of Google Photos.
In 2020, JLo posed on the Donatella Versace runway in the same dress, 20 years after she first wore it. At the end of the show, they joked about the controversy and projected the phrase, "Google, show me Jennifer Lopez's green dress."
