Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis say goodbye

The bad thing about rumors in the world of broken hearts - besides being almost always bad news - is that they tend to be confirmed. After more than six months of affirmations by the press and denials by the interested parties, it is now official that the couple formed by the American actor Johnny Depp and the French singer-actress Vanessa Paradis is a recent past.

After more than 14 years of relationship, two children in common - Lily Rose, 13 and Jack, 9-, Depp and Paradis "have parted amicably," the actor's publicist said in a statement. "Please respect your privacy and, most importantly, the privacy of your children."

The couple, who never went through the vicarage - "I am more married than anyone," Paradis would say to Elle magazine a few years ago, "I have two children with him and I can live like this" -, began to distance themselves when they moved to live in USA - Los Angeles, specifically - from France - where they lived in the south, in the idyllic countryside. Depp, 49, and Paradis, 39, haven't walked a red carpet together in at least a year, sparking the first speculation.

The love that seemed unbreakable since they met in Paris in 1988 - Depp was dining with colleagues when he was struck down by Cupid when he saw a young Paradis with a group of friends in a Parisian cafe - has reached its final station. Paradis pointed out every time she was asked - and it was constantly, few couples in Hollywood survive those years - that the secret of their success was that they did not live together every day. "That keeps our relationship stable," she said. It seems that it has not been enough.
