Spider-Man: No Way Home Review: What Are The Critics Saying?

Marvel's new movie has a high degree of fanservice

The first reviews of Spider-Man: No Way Home have come after the world premiere of the film.

On Monday (December 13), the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) movie was released in Hollywood, and shortly afterwards spoiler-free reactions appeared on social media.

This premiere has raised special expectations due to the secrecy of its production.

After it was revealed that several non-MCU characters from previous Spider-Man films would be in the film (including Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro), many assumed that former Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, they would appear somehow.

Although that detail is still unknown, it has been revealed that fans are very happy with the outcome of the film, which sees Tom Holland return as the arachnid alongside Benedict Cumberbatch's Dr. Strange.

Critics, on the other hand, are being more restrained in their reactions.

The Guardian awarded the film three stars, writing that director Jon Watts “does a pretty solid job here, tasked with upping the ante considerably while bringing back numerous villains from previous Spider-Man universes, and delivers a skilfully choreographed and propellant adventure that will appease a broad fan base this Christmas. "

However, the review says that this "comes with a bigger scenario is a loss of the carefree teen movie vibe of the first two offerings, giving way to the mostly undeserved Marvel gravity."

For its part, The Hollywood Reporter rates No Way Home as "the least funny of the Watts / Holland films by a wide margin (intentionally, up to a point)", stating: "But it is much better than the last Spidey trilogy, Sam Raimi's overloaded and ill-conceived Spider-Man 3 ”.

Rolling Stone notes that, thanks to all the returning characters, “there is a button for you that is being pressed”, adding: “The fanservice is done here, as in most modern superhero films, but now it spans generations. of fans. Why have a Marvel Cinematic Universe, the film timidly asks, when you can have several? "

However, there were those who could not praise the film enough.

Journalist Scott Menzel called No Way Home "the best Marvel movie of all time," adding that "fans of the arachnid will lose their minds when they see it."

Tessa Smith wrote: “Spider-Man: No Way Home did not meet my expectations, it exceeded them. This movie is worth every excruciating moment we had to wait for! "

"It's hard to imagine it beating this one," Brandon Davis stated. "It's really hard to imagine that you can get more than this movie gives you as a #SpiderMan fan."

Spider-Man: No Way Home will open in theaters on Wednesday (December 15).
