There are several reasons that a person does not like marilyn manson.
The first reason is rumors. The people who hate him for this reason have likely never heard his music, they don't know the lyrics to his songs, and they have possibly never even seen what he looks like. All they know about him is what they have heard from tv or their peers or their church. They avoid learning about him because they have already made up their mind that he is something they hate.
The second reason is disgust. These people may have liked the music and were interested in seeing a live show or something. They became offended by the act itself. The act is created to offend. It makes a statement and it worked on these people. After seeing his act they now don't like his music and won't listen to it anymore.
The next reason is preference. Some people just don't enjoy the music. They don't really hate him, but they are not interested in hearing more.
The next reason would be religion. Many religious people will see symbolism in his music and take it at face value. They will think he is serious when he says things like

The people who hate him for his lyrics really haven't gone much further than the surface. His lyrics really are very thought provoking. I would say most of his fans don't even get the message he is trying to put out. His lyrics are offensive, that's the point. He is making a statement that is ignored. If you arrange his songs from the albums "antichrist superstar", "mechanical animals" and "holy wood" in a specific order it actually parallels the life and ministry of christ completely. I have explained that one to many of his fans and completely blew their minds.
The last reason is my reason. I can't stand his fans. I love the music and the presentation of the music, but I really hate being in the same group as his fans. Most of them are angry kids who have decided that christianity is the cause of all the problems in the world. They hate all christians and will blindly accept anything that seems to oppose the religion. His music doesn't put out that mesage at all. It is more of a warning against blindly following anything.
