SALMA HAYEK'S TRAUMATIC VULGAR SCENE IN 'DESPERADO'

The actress confesses that, although Antonio Banderas and Robert Rodríguez were "gentlemen", every time she had to remove the towel she ended up crying...

Coinciding with Kate Winslet's claim about the presence of an "intimacy coordinator" for romance scenes, Salma Hayek has just revealed that it was precisely the filming of one of those sequences of the movie 'Desperado' that has traumatized her the most of his career. The film, directed by Robert Rodríguez in 1995, told the story of El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas), a guitarist seeking revenge, who teams up with Carolina (Hayek) to challenge dangerous drug dealers.

The film was very explicit, both on a violent and romance level, and Salma has recounted on the Armchair Expert podcast how difficult it was for her to shoot some scenes that, although they were not in the script at first, were "demanded by the studio when They saw the chemistry there was” between her and her partner Antonio. “He is an absolutely charming guy, a complete gentleman, and we became very close friends. But he was very 'free'.

And I was very scared of something that, for him, was really nothing. I had never seen myself in such a situation so I started crying and he said: 'My God, you're making me feel terrible'. He made me so embarrassed… ”, she recalls. “Elizabeth Avellán, Robert Rodríguez's wife at that time, became a great friend of mine. I remember that Robert closed the entire set so that only he, his wife, Antonio and I were there”. Although the three of them tried to distract her by making her laugh, as soon as she took off the towel that covered her, she started crying again. The reason? She couldn't stop thinking about her father and her brother who, she admits, supported her a lot.

Salma also wants to make it clear that both the actor and the director were magnificent with her and she did not receive any kind of pressure. She adds that although the scene received quite a few cuts during editing, she doesn't feel comfortable watching it.
