She also had strange preferences when choosing her pets. So much so that she had a snake named Harry Dean Staton and a lizard named Vladimir.

In those years, she was a fan of Star Trek and at school she belonged to a band called Kissy Girls. With her friends, she dedicated herself to looking for boys to kiss them until they begged for mercy.

She during her youth also collected knives, a rare preference and she has never said what she did with them. A little later, when she was with Billy Bob Thorton, she also had an electric chair at home. And she always wore a pendant with a small vial with their blood, to be more united as a couple.

Her work commitments led her to visit many countries around the world. But after visiting war-torn Cambodia in 2000, the actress took on a role that would completely change her life as she became an outspoken advocate for refugees and displaced people. Upon her return from the Asian country, where she went for the filming of the movie Tomb Raider, Jolie spoke with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

In 2003, she wrote and published the book Memoirs of My Travels, which chronicles her experiences in missions in Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Pakistan, Cambodia, and Ecuador.

In this publication, which has been applauded for the honesty and humility of its author, the actress tells an anecdote that contains a very powerful message: “When I was on the plane from Paris, an African man in an elegant blue suit asked me smiling if he was a journalist. I said, 'No, I'm just an American who wants to learn about Africa!'"
