Bill Skarsgard had to become Pennywise, the evil clown who terrorizes the children of It. The 27-year-old Swedish actor had to completely transform himself to be the feared character with whom to conquer the audience again almost 30 years after the premiere of the original version. Of all the fears that Skarsgard could have, there was only one that really disturbed the actor: traumatizing his little co-stars.
The version of It directed by Andy Muschietti has become the premiere of the week. For this reason, Skarsgard went to present the film to Jimmy Kimmel's program, where he explained his greatest fear when playing Pennywise.
"On my first day there was a very intense scene in which I had to get into character. In that scene I appeared and approached him, it was very intense," the actor commented on the first time he played the clown and how he had to terrorize young actor Jack Dylan Grazer.
"I approached him and yelled in his face. He was crying and choking," he explained to Kimmel from Stockholm, assuring that in the back of his mind he kept thinking that he was traumatizing the then 13-year-old young actor. "What am I doing?" Skarsgard wondered. His surprise came when he saw that Grazer was not only not scared; he had enjoyed the scene and everything he had done was within his interpretation.
Skarsgard, a saga of actors
Bill Skarsgard is the youngest of a great saga of actors. At 27 years old, the actor born in Stockholm has been dedicated to acting for more than two decades, encouraged by a well-known family. His father, Stellan Skarsgard, is known for his performances in films like Pirates of the Caribbean, Mamma Mia!, Nymphomaniac or The Hunt for Red October, in which he precisely coincided with Tim Curry, the first Pennywise from It.
For his part, his brother Alexander is well known for his roles in The Legend of Tarzan, Melancholia or series like Generation Kill, True Blood or the most recent Big Little Lies. His brother Gustaf plays Floki in the Vikings series.
