Princess Kate Slams Charlotte for Abandoning Royal Duties for Sports Career

Princess Charlotte clearly follows in her parents' footsteps with her love of sports, being keen on everything from rugby to gymnastics. But could she be the first young royal to pursue a sporting career? Already showing a keen interest in sports, Princess Charlotte has a particular obsession with one game. Like her mother, Princess Kate, the 6-year-old princess loves a number of sports, including tennis and rugby, but she's particularly fond of football. This was first revealed by her father, Prince William, in 2022.

During a visit to St. George's Park, the English lionesses' training ground in Burton-on-Trent, Prince William delivered a touching message from his football-mad daughter. He told Captain Leah Williamson, "Charlotte wanted me to tell you she's really good at football. She said, 'Please tell them that I'm a budding star for the future.'"

While Princess Charlotte wouldn't be the first member of the royal family to take up competitive sports — the Windsor family has a rich lineage of keen equestrians and Olympians — she would be the first to pursue a career in football.

Charlotte has spoken about her love of sports before, mentioning that her favorite physical activity is gymnastics. When she was revealed as the new patron of the Rugby Football Union, the Princess of Wales spoke at length about each of her children's love of sport. Kate explained how her eldest son, Prince George, loves playing rugby and netball with both girls and boys at his school. "Now that there is a trend towards mixed sports, girls are no longer just playing netball but other sports like rugby, which is great," she said.

Her youngest son, Prince Louis, is said to be obsessed with rugby. "They are all enjoying it. Louis is suicidal; we are worried that when he grows up he will be in the middle of everything," the Princess of Wales shared.

This week, the Princess of Wales shared how her daughter was spending her day in an unexpected way. Princess Charlotte, who turns 9 next week, has a very close relationship with her mother. "It put a big smile on Kate's face," she said.

In the sweetest way, Kate recalled this moment during a visit to the FSE Rism Community Hub in Bracknell in October last year. She was there to learn about the organization's work supporting Ukrainian refugees and during her stay, she spoke with an 8-year-old girl named Lisa.

"I heard my daughter singing this morning, and it's a song called 'Shine, Jesus, Shine,' and it made me so happy this morning," the princess said, sitting at Lisa's eye level.

Enthusiastically responding to the song's title, Lisa prompted Kate to ask, "Do you know that song? Does it have the same melody? I heard it this morning, and it made me so happy."

This comes after Prince William revealed that mornings in the Welsh household usually start with Prince George and Princess Charlotte arguing about what music to listen to.
