Meghan Markle Speaks Out About Her Time in the UK as Prince Harry Plans Return
Meghan Markle has opened up about a difficult chapter in her life in the UK, just as her husband, Prince Harry, prepares to head back to his home country.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the decision to step down from their royal duties in 2020 following a public fallout with the royal family. Since then, they've been open about their challenges, discussing their experiences through various platforms.
While they've managed to stay in the public eye since their departure, many details of their lives have remained private. Now, Meghan, who recently rejoined social media, is sharing a personal memory from her time living as part of the royal family. As Harry contemplates reconciling with his relatives and returning to the UK, Meghan’s feelings are quite different, especially regarding her views on the country.
In a recent post, Meghan paid a heartfelt tribute to her dog Guy, whom she adopted in 2015, long before meeting Prince Harry. In her lengthy message, she reflected on a “terrible accident” that affected her beloved pet.
“If you followed me on Instagram back in the day, you saw a lot of him - and on The Tig too,” she wrote, referring to her late dog. “He was with me during my time on *Suits*, when I got engaged, when I became a mom... He was there through everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, and the comfort.”
Meghan then recalled the difficult moment when Guy had a severe accident just before she moved to the UK. “He endured a terrible accident shortly before I moved to the UK, which led to several surgeries over many months. He couldn’t leave the clinic for a while. The doctors told us he might never walk again, but Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick was confident he could. Harry and I would drive late at night to visit him in Surrey as he recovered for months on end.”
She expressed her gratitude for those who helped Guy during his recovery, writing, “I will always be grateful to Noel and his team, the staff at Queen West Animal Hospital in Toronto, our current vets, and my friends and community: Thank you for loving him so.”
Meanwhile, Prince Harry is preparing for his return to the UK, where he is engaged in ongoing legal battles. One of the cases involves suing the British tabloids in the London High Court, while he is also taking legal action against the UK Home Office, seeking police protection for himself and his family during visits to the country.
Harry is expected to travel to the UK next month, but Meghan will not be accompanying him.
