Chairperson Accuses Prince Harry of Hurting His Own Charity
Prince Harry is catching heat for allegedly tanking his own charity, Sentebale, and the accusations are coming straight from the top.
Dr. Sophie Chandauka, the charity’s chairperson, didn’t mince words after the Duke of Sussex stepped away from his role. In a jaw-dropping chat with Sky News’ Trevor Phillips, she spilled the tea: Sentebale started bleeding major sponsors and donors the minute Harry bolted from the UK.
When Trevor pressed her on why this sponsor exodus wasn’t hashed out sooner, Sophie admitted, “It’s not exactly a comfy chat to have with Prince Harry sitting there.” Trevor followed up, “So, donors were basically ditching you because of the prince’s rep?” Her blunt “Yes” said it all.
But it gets juicier. Sophie dropped a bombshell, claiming Harry and his crew turned the tables on her and the charity. “Prince Harry started whispering to sponsors—ones I’d been working with—spinning stories against me and Sentebale,” she said. “It’s a slick way to shove me out the door by making it look like I’m flopping at fundraising.”
A source tight with Harry fired back, though, slamming the claims as “total nonsense” and insisting there’s no truth to the sabotage story.
This drama’s unfolding after Harry and his co-founder, Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, walked away from Sentebale, a charity they kicked off back in 2006 to honor their moms. In a joint statement, they got sentimental: “Almost 20 years ago, we launched Sentebale—‘forget-me-not’ in Sesotho, Lesotho’s local tongue—for the kids we’ve supported all this time.”
“Even now, that promise holds,” they added. “But with heavy hearts, we’re stepping down as patrons for now, standing with the board of trustees who’ve also had to bail.” They didn’t hold back on the mess, saying, “It’s gut-wrenching that the trustees and the board chair hit a point of no return, leaving everything in chaos.”
Harry’s exit and these wild accusations are stirring up a storm—is he really the guy who’d sabotage his own passion project? The debate’s heating up fast.
