Inside Prince Harry’s Decision to Skip a Meeting With King Charles

Prince Harry and King Charles appear to be heading toward yet another missed encounter.

Reports indicate that Prince Harry does not plan to meet his father during King Charles’ upcoming state visit to the United States. A source close to Harry shared that the Duke of Sussex will not be traveling to Washington, D.C., where the King’s official engagements will take place.

Buckingham Palace recently confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel to the U.S. in April after receiving an official invitation from the American president. The visit is expected to be a major diplomatic moment, featuring events at the White House and a formal address to Congress.

In its announcement, the Palace stated: “At the recommendation of His Majesty’s Government and following an invitation from the President of the United States, Their Majesties will conduct a State Visit to the United States of America.”

The statement added that the royal schedule will highlight both the historical ties and the modern partnership between the UK and the U.S., marking 250 years since American Independence. After the visit, King Charles will travel on to Bermuda—his first Royal Visit as monarch to a British Overseas Territory.

Although both father and son will be in the United States at the same time, Prince Harry is not expected to leave his home in California—where he resides with Meghan Markle and their children—to meet the King in Washington, D.C.

Commenting on the situation, royal expert Jennie Bond previously told The Mirror that state visits leave little room for personal time. “State visits are extremely demanding. Every moment is planned months ahead, with a schedule aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties,” she explained.

She added, “There is virtually no downtime, and it’s highly unlikely the King would fly across the country to visit Harry and his family in California.”
