"If you ever want to stop shaving, that's fine."
Like most adults, Rachel McAdams grows armpit hair. It's natural, normal, and okay. So why should she feel obligated to shave it off or Photoshop it out of photos? Exactly.
For McAdams' latest photo shoot, the 44-year-old actress specifically asked that all images receive "minimal" editing, and the results are absolutely gorgeous. The photos accompany a Bustle featurette. This request is in keeping with McAdams' latest project, a film adaptation of Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, a coming-of-age story that deals with, among other things, puberty and dealing with your body. It's a topic McAdams can relate to.
Rachel McAdams Asked Not to Have Her Armpit Hair Removed
"I felt like a milking machine," she told the magazine of pumping milk between feeds to feed her five-month-old daughter. Following the birth of her first child in 2017, she posed for a different shoot with a breast pump alongside her couture ensemble. "I love that juxtaposition of beauty, glamour, fantasy, and then truth," she said.
"With this shoot, I'm wearing latex underwear," she said. "But I've had two kids. This is my body, and I think it's really important to reflect that to the world. It's okay to look your best, work at it, and be healthy, but that's different for every person."
For more tips, check out this video, which includes footage from the aforementioned photo shoot and, yes, wise words about shaving: "Always have shaving cream," she told her younger self, in part. "And then if one day you want to stop shaving, that's okay too."
As for that other coming-of-age story about a girl trying to fit in with the one Rachel McAdams is associated with... it probably won't be in the Mean Girls musical movie: "I don't see a way to shoehorn [the original cast] in," she revealed. But "if Tina [Fey] comes up with it, I'll be there, for sure." Stating this!
